Netflix is getting ready to welcome a new series, based on a toy line, in collaboration with video game publisher Activision Blizzard. The company announced this Tuesday that the show will be going by the name of ‘Skylanders‘ and it’s going to be the first production from Activision’s TV and film studios, according to USA Today.
Fans of the game will be delighted!
“We’re inspired by our fans’ excitement for these characters and have worked hard to bring these characters to life with stories our fans will love,” says Stacey Sher, Activision Blizzard Studios co-president.
The two parts have agreed for a two-season partnership, with Stacey Sher as ‘Skylanders‘ executive producer, while Activision Blizzard Studios Nick van Dyk will join her.
‘Skylanders‘ is a well known video game franchise, featuring collectible figures which players can actually transport into the game using a physical ‘portal’, says USA Today. Since its 2011 launch, over 250 million figurines were sold, generating a total of $3 billion.
From PC to TV
“Over the last five years, millions of families around the world have welcomed Skylanders characters into their homes,” Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said in an official. “Now, they’ll be able to watch their favorite characters come to life on Netflix.”
The series will focus on heroes teaching academy cadets doing everything the “Skylander way”, characters being voiced by Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks, and Norm MacDonald. Also, Susan Sarandon, Parker Posey, Catherine O’Hara, Daniel Wu, and Bobcat Goldthwait will joing the cast, as additional voice actors.
