If you’re a fan of Disney movies, no matter if we’re talking about older ones or the newest productions, we have some bad news for you: they will all be removed from Netflix!
According to Mashable this is the first step in the company’s plan to break off its relationship with the streaming platform and develop its own platforms, in order to reach consumers.
The love story is over
This Tuesday, Disney announced that all titles will be removed, which also marks the end of a very long partnership, which significantly helped Netflix to become a top notch at-home entertainment company.
As for the new platform, which is currently under development, it should be ready to make its debut in 2018, says the above-mentioned source. And it looks like Disney isn’t the only one following this path!
ESPN is also planning a similar move for a while, but there aren’t a lot of details about when it will happen, at least for the moment.
Expect even more original productions soon!
Back to Disney and Netflix, their ‘separation’ doesn’t come as a surprise though, despite their rewarding partnership. This will be a big loss for subscribers, as they will lose a huge quantity of content. On the other side, let’s not forget that it’s been a while since Netflix started pushing its own youth-focused content, somehow anticipating this move.
As expected, after the announcement was made, shares in both companies declined.
