There’s no doubt that Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events was one of the most expected Netflix original productions of the year and, to our delight, the production managed to impress us in a positive way!
Same plot, different approach
The plot of the first seasons follows the first four novels in the 13-book series, documenting the lives of the Baudelaire kids, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, who, after their parents’ death in a mysterious fire, are passed around from guardian to guardian. Shortly after, the villainous Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris, starts pursuing them, in an attempt to get his hands on their inherited fortune.
However, unlike the movie released in 2004, the show does more than just following the story from the books. The characters are very complex and morally gray, as both the heroes and villains will make decisions that blur the lines between them.
It’s impossible to avoid making comparisons between the movie launched more than a decade ago, even though it’s obvious that Netflix’s production is able to present way more details. To be more specific, the movie has just 105 minutes, while each episode of the series presents, in almost the same amount of time, way better adaptations of each novel.
We’re going to have Season 2!
For those of you who are already fans of ‘Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events’, we have some good news: season two has is currently filming and it appears that all 13 books will be viewable.
